2013 Season Opening
The snowbase is building at Mt Mawson (at least on the top half of the mountain) and so we plan to open this weekend 17-18 August. Conditions are likely to be marginal at first, but snow is forecast Saturday and Sunday (and into next week). The Hobart Walking Club and the Alpine Club of Tasmania […]

Another snowy weekend at Mt Mawson has delivered a foot or more of clean powdery snow on the ski field, and a pile of slush around Lake Dobson! There was nothing on Friday, and then it has snowed steadily since. A few snowboarders and cross country skiers have been out, but after the warmest […]

We had some good snow falls last weekend and the cold nights have done a great job of firming it up into a nice base. We just need a little top up to get the season going – unfortunately it won’t be before this weekend. Fingers crossed for some more snow next week.

An active Southwesterly weather pattern has brought snow to low levels in the Mt Field National Park. The Snow plough worked hard on Saturday morning 6th July and the road was opened to 4wd traffic at 1:20 pm. Coverage is deepening on the Mawson ski field, but will need to settle and form a good […]

Yes it was a windy and wild Anzac day weekend up at Mt Mawson. I was surprised at the number of visitors around despite the inclement conditions. We had driving rain, high winds and low temperatures up on top and then we finished up with snow showers on Sunday – you know, a typical weekend […]
Read More →Looking good, but it’s a “No” call for Saturday
Snowfall yesterday has improved the cover considerably on mountain. Unfortunately the Tow Manager for this weekend has decided that it’s still too marginal to run safely tomorrow. We hope to have someone on the mountain to inspect the cover properly on Saturday, so this assessment may change.

Showers and the chance of thunderstorms. Snowfalls developing to 400 metres. Winds westerly 50 to 70 km/h. Monday 6 August Cloudy. Scattered showers with possible […]
