Great Job by Ski Patrol

The opening of the 2018 Season saw a good turn out of experienced Mt Mawson Ski Patrollers to support the public having their first ski on the Mt Mawson Ski Field this season. It was also the first opportunity to test out the new First Aid Room in the Mt Mawson Day Shelter. Whilst not yet complete this proved to be a very useful space, and a big thanks to Parks and Vos Builders for allowing STSA early access to the facility so that the ski tows could be operated.

Unfortunately for STSA President Peter Davis the weekend also provided the opportunity to test out the new lightweight rescue sled (akja) recently acquired by the Mt Mawson Ski Patrol. Peter managed to take an awkward tumble whilst skiing the Mawson Run and wrenched his knee. Unable to walk he had to call on the services of the Mt Mawson Ski Patrol to get down to the Lake Dobson carpark, a task they accomplished very smoothly and competently. A big thanks to Simon Allen and Karen Wild-Allen supported by Bishwa Oakes for the efficient evacuation. It is great to acknowledge the dedication and training of the Mt Mawson Ski Patrol services, but there is no doubt Peter would have preferred to not have to test them out in person!

I've been involved with Mt Mawson since 1990 as a volunteer and I'm a member of the Oldina Ski club. I'm into skiing, a bit of snow boarding, snow shoeing and I'm partial to taking the odd photo.
