After much anticipation Sunday 26th September dawned with a beautiful blue sky and snow well down the Lake Dobson Road. A big crowd of snow enthusiasts headed for the ski field, and were rewarded with a beautiful sunny day and the prospect of a rare Spring ski after an unseasonally warm winter.
After a beautiful walk through the forest from Lake Dobson the anticipation built, and by 10:00 am a big crowd had gathered at the Mt Mawson public day shelter. There was the click of skis being put on, and the happy chatter of skiers and boarders getting ready for a long awaited day in the snow.
For the first time in the 60 year history of the ski field STSA was able to offer “tap and pay” with a brand new POS terminal in the new ticket office – and to the relief of all the volunteers it all worked brilliantly.
The Mawson Tow was successfully started by 10:00 am and the skiing fun began.
After a challenging year everyone present had a great day, and snow conditions were surprisingly good. In case we ran out of snow STSA sold tickets at the half day price of just $30 rather than the normal $45 day ticket price, but as it turned out the snow held in really well providing great conditions for all the skiers and boarders. (And a really good day out!)
We all feel very privileged to have been able to have a bonus ski day in late September, and a big shout out to all the STSA volunteers who made it all happen.
Let’s hope we have lots more great days in the coming seasons.
thanks everyone!!!
