Over the weekend we held two well attended training day sessions in preparation for the snow season.

On Saturday over 25 people attended the Mount Mawson Ski Patrol training day, overseen by Andrew Davey. This provided our trained ski patrollers and first aiders a chance to review and discuss operations for the upcoming season. Our club field has some unique site-specific issues and the group worked through how best to manage these safely. Orientation of our first aid room and its resources helped new and old to become familiar with the equipment now available. After the session a BBQ coordinated by Liz Koolhof was held to celebrate the coming season with Tow and Ticket Office managers. Some liquid refreshment helped facilitate discussions 😊

On Sunday 27 people attended the Tow and Ticket Office Managers Training Day, overseen by Craig Larsson. As with Saturday’s Ski Patrol day it was a great turn out. The important Ticket Office training was led by Annette Levis and discussions helped improve procedures for the coming season. This year we started with operating the Mawson and Uni tows and providing feedback on an updated procedures manual. This was led by Christina Nebel at the Mawson Tow as some males struggle with the reading manuals task 😉 Both tows were successfully opened, run and shut down as a test for the season’s readiness. After lunch, with abundant sausages from the previous days BBQ, Craig and Ambrose held an overview of operating and safety procedures discussion that provided key information and facilitated feedback.

It was humbling to see over 50 volunteers give up their time to attend these training days so that we can provide a safe and enjoyable skiing/boarding experience at Mount Mawson. Looking forward to seeing many of you on the mountain soon to be covered in snow as in April!
