Midway though the first month of Spring, and it seems that Winter is not done with us yet. The weather forecast for this week includes two separate dumps of snow – and if we are lucky there might even be enough snow to run the ski tows at Mt Mawson this season after all.

Although the “official” ski season is past, there are lots of enthusiastic skiers and boarders keen to get a few turns in, particularly after two disappointing seasons. Accordingly STSA volunteers have rallied around, and are ready to go if the snow conditions permit. The first possibility would be for an unusual midweek opening this Wednesday, but if the snow base has not yet built up enough the second burst of snow forecast for Friday might do the trick.
Quite a number of visitors are up at Lake Dobson today enjoying the fresh snow, which has continued to fall throughout the day. The road has been ploughed, although it is only accessible for 4WDs with chains at the moment.

We will make a call on whether skiing will be offered this Wednesday after an on-the-slope assessment tomorrow morning, and will also provide updates via this blog and website if the Mt Mawson Ski Tows will be running this weekend.

Any news yet? We’re looking to come down from Qld if ur opening but I have to get the skis sorted and chains hired (just got the storage wax on).
We’ll have to wait till Friday to see how much base has remained for the new snow to fall on – we need a decent base to ensure skiers can safely ski the slope- particularly when we have nice fluffy powder snow on top!
