It’s a quickly moving feast, this snow forecasting. We have a solid base up on the mountain still and the now forecasted snow to 600 meters tomorrow, should make for another fun weekend. There’s the potential for 5-10cm. Snow showers clearing Sunday. Then looking ahead we have a more significant dump coming during next week.

Sun or snow? Tows to run this weekend at Mt Mawson
Last year, I wanted to test my new skis and bindings but there wasn’t enough snow to turn on. I was reluctant to take my skis off and walk back down and ended up with a dent in one of my edges! I like it when there is at least 30 cm at the lake Dobson Car park; then I place my climbing skins on the base of my skis and head up. Last year I decided to leave the tow area after only 3 runs and as I went down the Jeep Track, other skiers and boarders had pushed all the snow to the edges, such that there was no longer sufficient snow, to turn on. So, for my first time, I stuck to the edge and did a serries of short turns “like a dolphin” a style that I had been advised to employ by a fellow skier, whom I met at Mt Mawson in about 2007, whom had been a ski instructor. I felt great, descending the hill, with speed and control.
