Alpine Odyssey Film Screening

15 July – Hobart, Dechaineux Theatre

Alpine Odyssey, a film by Ivan Hexter, tells the story of my winter 2022 journey along the 700km length of the Australian Alps, a journey I first undertook 27 years ago. The 50-day traverse also had me skiing at each of the dozen mainland Australian snow resorts en route. It was a journey across country I have loved for decades, a journey to celebrate the mountains and communities that make up this very special, very small part of Australia. But with love also comes concern and care.

Screenings are raising funds for Save the Children and Protect Our Winters (POW), two organisations I’m very proud to be an Ambassador for. Funds will be raised via entry tickets, raffles/auctions etc.

Whilst the film is core to each event there are other elements to entertain the crowds! POW will also be presenting details on some of the important work they are doing here in Australia including the release, back in June, of a major new report into the impacts of climate change on the Australian Alps ecology and economy.

I've been involved with Mt Mawson since 1990 as a volunteer and I'm a member of the Oldina Ski club. I'm into skiing, a bit of snow boarding, snow shoeing and I'm partial to taking the odd photo.
