A busy Saturday

We had a great turn out of skiers and boarders at Mt Mawson today (Saturday 24th August 2013) for the second weekend of downhill tow operation this season. There is a very good cover of snow on the ski runs, and it took a while to dig out some big drifts on the the University towline path and get the second tow running. Thanks to the volunteers from the Mt Mawson Ski Club and the Mt Mawson Ski Patrol for getting everything up and running.

Conditions were initially soft, but as more skiers and boarders hit the slopes the runs firmed and quickened. It was certainly a lot better on-piste than off!  A number  of cross country skiers and snowshoers headed out to the Tarn Shelf, but returned to rejoin the skiers and boarders on the Mt Mawson slopes due to the soft conditions away from the tows.

We have a good base for skiing now – so come up and join in! The tows will be running again tomorrow (Sunday 25th August) and then again next weekend.

Please note the recommended parking pattern in the Lake Dobson carpark. It was a bit hard to fit all the cars in today as the carpark was not fully ploughed, and the local police were on site issuing cautions!
