Its been a challenging week at the Mt Field National Park with the Lake Dobson Road having to be closed due to a landslip and washaway. The dedicated workers from Stornaway, State Growth and Parks have however put in a mammoth effort to make the road passable, and as a result we are now able to open the Skifield this weekend!

The STSA volunteers who operate the skifield have rallied around at the last minute, with a number planning to head up early in the morning with the aim of getting the tows running by 10 am (subject to a final on-site assessment of the snow conditions).

Care will need to be taken on the Lake Dobson Road, with one section at least to be single file to allow the landslip area to be safely passed. As always 4WD or 2WD with chains fitted are the recommended transport.

The snow conditions have suffered a bit with the very warm week, but fortunately we had an excellent base last weekend that should enable skiers and boarders to have a great day out at Mt Mawson. There is also some further light snow forecast for both Saturday and Sunday.

A number of mainland ski fields have had to close, but fortunately here in Southern Tasmania we are still open. Come on up to Mt Field National Park to enjoy some Tasmanian spring snow!
