One year ago today – Mt Mawson Skifield 21 September 2024

It looks like late ski seasons are becoming the norm in Southern Tasmania. Whilst the weather was pretty wild today (Saturday) a lot of skiers and boarders were up at Mt Mawson enjoying fresh snow on the jeep trail (out of the wind!) and on the lower slopes of the skifield.  Volunteers from the Wellington Outdoor and Ski Club were on the mountain testing the conditions, and are planning to open the ski-field tomorrow (Sunday 21 September 2025). Volunteers from Mt Mawson Ski Patrol are on hand to do a final safety check tomorrow morning, and if conditions are suitable will give the final go-ahead.

The Dobson Road is clear to the carpark,  but there is still plenty of fresh snow on the jeep trail and on the ski-field, with some more expected to fall tonight. Remember to bring plenty of warm clothing as the wind is still likely to be very fresh.

Its a great opportunity to enjoy snow skiing close to Hobart before Spring fully arrives. The intention is to open the tows at 10 am, noting that they will run till 3 pm Sunday as the lead Ski Patroller has to return to Hobart at that time. Enjoy your day!
