Spectacular winter view of Mt Mawson – except it’s the 10th of October!

One benefit of the wild weather we have been experiencing in Southern Tasmania is that there is fresh snow at Mt Mawson (again!) We don’t always expect to be running the ski tows at this time of year, but if there is the opportunity (and it is safe to do so) we might as well make the most of this last burst of winter.

A number of keen volunteers from the Oldina Ski Club have made it on to the mountain this evening to check out conditions, and to help get the tows ready to run. It’s certainly windy,  but the snow conditions are very good with 20 cm of wind packed powder.

The final decision on running the ski tows rests with the Mt Mawson Ski Patrol and the OSC Tow Manager – they are heading up to check conditions tomorrow morning.
