Mawson snow fences

Another very productive and enjoyable day on the mountain for a small band of STSA volunteers. The March working bee got underway at 10:00 am with Paul Vince, Peter and Karen Davis starting work on the bottom section of snow fence panels. They were soon joined by Rod Stolorz and Tony Oakes who had been held up by a fallen tree on the Dobson Road. Rod focussed on removing old fence materials from the mountain, while Tony did an excellent job of painting the gable end of the Mawson Tow Hut.

Later on Matthew Davis, Stephen and Elizabeth Webber joined in with constructing new snow fence panels, until sent scurrying by some typical mountain rain. Several panels were repaired and two new sections constructed, meaning that the new bottom section of the Mawson run snow fence  is almost complete. It looks great – now we just need to see it capturing snow. Thanks to all our volunteers for their efforts

The focus now turns to repairing older snow fences damaged by snow load, and a general tidy up ready for the 2014 ski season.
