As skiers and boarders shiver in the current temporary public shelter (shipping container) at Mt Mawson Ski Field, the good news is that progress is being made on the new public shelter which will replace the old Sitzmark Lodge, demolished back in 2013. DPIPWE/PWS project manager Perry Foster advises that the new public shelter and ski patrol shelter are being constructed off-site in preparation for installation on the mountain this Summer. A significant milestone was achieved this week with the completion of the concrete pour for the floor slabs of the two buildings – see Project Update
Another thing that is coming is a great weekend’s skiing at Mt Mawson this weekend 2-3 September. Volunteers from the Wellington Ski and Outdoor Club will be running the tows, with warm spring-like conditions expected. This all changes next week with yet another Antarctic blast bringing fresh snow to low levels.
So don’t put away your skis and boards just yet – make the most of a great Tasmanian ski season at Mt Mawson!
