The STSA Committee met this week and finalised plans for what needs to be done prior to the 2025 Ski Season. The next working bee is scheduled to take place on Saturday 3rd May, and will be followed by a Tow Operators Training Day on Sunday 4th May.

Great progress has been made over the Summer working bees so far, including repairs to Uni and Mawson snow fences, re-splicing the Rodway rope and improving radio communications on the mountain. There are still a couple of key tasks to be done at the next working bee, including putting new slats on a couple of Mawson snow fence panels, constructing a new snow fence panel to fill in gaps at the bottom of the Uni tow, and a general tidy up / racking of any excess timber. For those not interested in carpentry we will also be topping up the fuel tanks for Mawson and Uni tows with some new winterised diesel fuel.

On the Sunday we will be providing tow operation and ticket office training, and all ski clubs are encouraged to send along representatives for this important refresher training. Even if you are not a nominated tow manager it is an opportunity to learn about the impressive STSA diesel engines, and the various safety protocols which must be followed to operate the tows. A key skill is knowing how to operate the clutches on Mawson and Uni tows to be able to restart the tow when it has stopped on a ski day.

As usual, meet at the Lake Dobson gate at 10 am on both days, and if you are coming up on Saturday 4th May don’t forget to lodge your vote in the Federal Election on the way up!
