Snow conditions were excellent for skiing and boarding at Mt Mawson skifield today (Saturday 11 October). The sun peeked out occasionally, and snow continued to fall throughout the day adding fresh powder on top of a good base. As usual it took a good effort for the volunteers from the Oldina Ski Club to get the tows de-iced, and a ski path excavated through the big drift at the top of the Mawson run.

All the skiers and boarders have had a great day, and it is amazing to think that conditions are so good, and yet Mt Mawson is the only skifield operating anywhere in Australia. Mt Mawson Ski Patrol were in attendance, and used the opportunity of classic Tasmanian winter conditions to conduct a training exercise. There were also a number of beginners and visitors who had their first experience of a rope tow.
