Ski Patrol facility being framed April 2018
Good progress is being made on the construction of the new visitors day shelter and ski patrol facilities at Mt Mawson ski field. Yesterday project manager Perry Foster was on site, and the builders have started erecting the walls for the southern building which will house the ticket office and belt issue, as well as the all-important Ski Patrol First Aid Room.
It is a race against time, though, with bad weather predicted from this weekend with snow, followed by heavy rain and gale force winds, and then more snow! The forecast from snow-forecast.com sets it out pretty clearly…
Mt Mawson weather for the start of the school holidays!
Volunteers from the Southern Tasmanian Ski Association were also on the mountain yesterday. Craig Larsson and Tim Metcalf installed new safety lights on the control panel in the University Tow Hut, and then conducted an inspection of Rodway Tow to determine works needed following last year’s massive snow fall. Whilst out at Rodway Craig snapped this photo of the fagus. Looks like the colour is early this year, and with the forecast bad weather it might be a quick display only…
