Long time denizen of Mt Mawson, Nick Truchanas, has lost his favorite retro stocks. Loosing a pair of old stocks normally wouldn’t be of concern, you can usually pick up a set from this era at garage sales for a few dollars. However in this case, their nature belies their provenance and true value.
Nick’s father is the late Olegas Truchanas, the celebrated pioneering Tasmanian wilderness photographer. Family friend, fellow famous photog and godfather to Nick – Peter Dombrovskis, gifted the stocks to Nick when he was 10 years old.
Nick injured his leg recently on Mt Mawson and used the stocks to help him back to the car park, that was on Friday 31st August. He accidentally left them against the fence near the Urqhart Track start about three car bays down. Parks personnel looked and couldn’t find them, so Nick has reached out to us in the hope of recovering them.
“The stocks are visually quite distinct. They are; adult size, downhill metal poles, predominately black in colour with ‘Spaulding’ written down the length of the poles in white text. Handles are translucent plastic and loops are leather”.
They hold a lot of sentimental value for Nick and he would truly love to get them back. If you found them or know where they are? then please let us know in the comments below or via the contact form and I can arrange to collect them and return them to Nick. I know he would be most appreciative.

I might have Nick’s Poles. They fit the description but have Roland Collombin written down the side. I will put them in The Friends School Front office for him to collect.
