It is now exactly 100 years since Mt Field was declared Tasmania’s first National Park in 1916 (along with Freycinet). The Mt Mawson Ski Field has been operating for 50 of those years, with skiing being part of activities at Mt Field for more than 90 years.

This weekend the STSA volunteers have mounted a display of skiing over the years as part of the centenary celebrations at Mt Field.

The weekend’s celebrations were opened this morning by the Govenor of Tasmania, her Excellency Dr Kate Warner, who spent some time chatting to STSA volunteers about her winter experiences at Mt Field. STSA President Peter Davis was also interviewed by ABC News.

It is a stunning Autumn day in the Derwent Valley, and large crowds are gathering to enjoy the festivities. Come up to Mt Field today or tomorrow and check out the STSA display.
