FAQ – Contact

Mt Mawson is a small club ski field. We are run entirely from a roster of volunteers who are members of the seven ski clubs on Mount Mawson. We only operate on weekends and we’re open to the public.

Most of the questions we receive will be covered below or by searching the website:

FAQ’s

Tickets: are only available from the ticket office (in the new building) at the bottom of the Mawson Tow on the days of operation. We’re trialing a newly installed EFTPOS (electronic funds payment) system this season (2021). Bring cash as a backup in case we’re having any issues with it, please.

Resort Conditions & Opening Hours: Any updates to the snow and operating conditions are published on: www.mtmawson.info – Look in the MOUNTAIN REPORT section on the R.H. side of any page. The reports will commence close to the beginning of the season/when we start getting snowfalls, and conclude at the end of the season:

Pre Season – means the official season hasn’t started, preparations are done and we’re awaiting snow
On Hold – means that we are in season but do not have enough snow to run yet
Open this Weekend – means that we intend to operate on the coming weekend subject to snow conditions and safety considerations.
Closed – means we are closed for the season. The ski area is still accessible for snow play

Note that the tow only operates on weekends unless otherwise advised

Snow Chains: In winter 2 wheel drive cars are required to carry snow chains. Even if there is no snow on the road, sections of the road are subject to ice and can be very slippery and dangerous. There is no snow chain hire in Southern Tasmania.

Rentals and Gear: There is no gear rental available on the mountain. The only ski hire shop in Southern Tasmania, Ski Gia, is now permanently closed. The following may be of use for new and used gear:

Waterfalls Cafe & Gallery: small toboggans for sale. They’re located at the information centre in the Mt Field National Park (entrance to the park and beginning of the road to Mt Mawson). They can sell out, so give them a call beforehand. Phone (03)6288 1526
