New Mt Mawson Day Shelter taking shape August 2018
The Annual General Meeting of the Southern Tasmanian Ski Association was held on Wednesday evening, with the new committee elected ready for a big program of activity this Summer. The meetings have now shifted to the new venue of St Andrews Hall in Bathurst Street – thanks to Liz Koolhof for organising this excellent venue. Thanks also to Antal Hanke for all his support in allowing the STSA to use the Baptist Church Hall in Elizabeth Street for its meetings over many years. After the AGM a full committee meeting was held, followed by an excellent supper with animated discussions held about the year ahead.

At the meeting STSA also thanked STSA Bishwa Oakes for the regular, informative, up-beat website reports during the snow season and also to Ian Stewart for his industrious work behind the scenes on IT and the webcams at Mt Mawson.
Working Bees

This summer there is a diverse program of maintenance activities to complete on the Mt Mawson Ski Field, as well as moving into the new STSA First Aid Room and Ticket Office. It is suggested that Working Bees be conducted on the third weekend of each month from January, except in April where the working bee will need to be a week earlier to avoid clashing with Easter:
Saturday 19th January – Sunday 20th January
Saturday 16th February – Sunday 17th February
Saturday 16th March – Sunday 17th March
Saturday 13th April – Sunday 14th April.
There is a lot to get done, including moving into the new Ski Patrol room, splicing and installing a new rope for the Mawson tow and general maintenance and improvement to the ski fields. If you enjoy being out in the mountains, and helping with a community focussed organisation we are always looking for volunteers to help with this work program. You don’t have to be a member of a ski club, but just have an interest in helping STSA keep the Mt Mawson Ski Field operating and up to date. Carpentry skills are of course always welcome!

Watch for details of when the Mt Mawson ski field is running on this site – or even better sign up for our blog and receive details direct to your inbox. The ski field is accessed by a scenic 45 minute walk from the Lake Dobson Carpark, and once there you will be able to enjoy the new Park facilities. For downhill skiing you will need to hire a tow belt for $35, and STSA volunteers will help get you started on the tows. Unfortunately there is no ski hire available on the mountain so you will need to “bring your own”
