Yes it was a windy and wild Anzac day weekend up at Mt Mawson. I was surprised at the number of visitors around despite the inclement conditions.

We had driving rain, high winds and low temperatures up on top and then we finished up with snow showers on Sunday – you know, a typical weekend on Mount Mawson really 🙂

Fungi on the way to Lady Barron Falls

We opted for a couple of walks around the Tall Trees and falls walks down in the park, where the wind and temps were mild. The fungi are starting to pop out around the place which made for some good photo opportunities.

At the top of Russell falls I was by the stream side photographing, I took a photo and moved my tripod to the right for the next shot. At my feet, at the edge of the water, I noticed something moving in the water. At first I thought it was a rat, because of the size, but it was a juvenile platypus.

Platypus

This lovely little fellow was furiously foraging under leaves and rocks and took no notice of me. He put on a great little show for 10 minutes or so.

I've been involved with Mt Mawson since 1990 as a volunteer and I'm a member of the Oldina Ski club. I'm into skiing, a bit of snow boarding, snow shoeing and I'm partial to taking the odd photo.
